Lane Houk

Lane A. Houk, Editor

Lane Houk is a recognized internet marketing and reputation expert. Lane regularly speaks to business owners of all types about online reputation management and marketing and why it is imperative for professionals and companies to pro-actively manage their online reputation and take immediate steps if/when someone posts a negative review or worse, lies, about you or your company online. Online defamation can have devastating effects on your business and your professional career.

In 2013, Lane successfully sued two individuals and their company for online defamation after they posted blatant lies about him online. These individuals were competitors trying to disparage Lane’s sterling reputation and their website post landed on the first page of Google when someone searched “Lane Houk.”

Lane did something most people wouldn’t consider doing… he sued these individuals “pro se” meaning Lane represented himself in the matter which was brought in Hillsborough County, Florida (Tampa area) where the majority of the damage was being incurred.

With lots of research, legal and otherwise, Lane filed the complaint in state court. After a year of litigation, the individuals gave up, took down the entire website, agreed to never post another negative thing about Lane online and paid a reasonable settlement fee to reimburse Lane for costs, fees and damages.

During the course of litigation, one of the issues was appealed by the Defendants to the Second District Court of Appeals . This was a legal matter that was beyond Lane’s skill set so he found and retained a civil litigation and defamation law attorney named Sean Cox.
